A high-stall converter usually makes a car quicker and more responsive. But there is another reason why high-stall converters influence performance: weight. A 10-inch converter is quite a bit lighter than a 12- or 13-inch job, and an 8-inch converter is lighter still. Not only that, the smaller converter holds less fluid. As a result, it's like installing an aluminum flywheel. Less mass means more throttle response.
