1969 Chevrolet Camaro Air Intake Intake Placement
Here's our starting point. The front-and-center throttle body placement on all LS engines can make running an intake tube challenging. Most likely this is the reason many guys simply stuff one on the end of the throttle body.

Here's a close-up of the filter situation. Due to the placement area, the filter is smaller than it should be and, since it sits directly on top of the upper radiator hose, it's sucking really hot air into the engine--not a good thing.

1969 Chevrolet Camaro Air Intake Inhouse Building
K&N builds all of its intakes in house. What this means for our Camaro project is that it has some killer tools and machines on hand to whittle together tasty intakes. After taking some measurements, the guys grabbed some jigs and bent up some 3-inch tubing.

After more test fitting, the tubing was cut to size on a band saw. Keep in mind that while K&N has high-end equipment, this same work can be done in your average garage. It just takes time and patience.

Using a rubber 90-degree elbow, the new intake tube was put in place. Besides making the requisite 90-degree turn, the elbow also offers some heat insulation and dampens vibration from the engine into the intake since it flexes just a bit.

1969 Chevrolet Camaro Air Intake Aesthetic View
Here's another view of the new intake tube. From an aesthetic standpoint, the filter will look much better out of sight and, on the performance side, the air pulled in from this location will be much cooler than that found at the dead center of the engine bay. With the fit confirmed, the tube could be fully welded and powdercoated in-house at K&N.
