18 The graph obviously illustrates that we were able to reach our goal of producing 600 hp with the 427 small-block. Not so obvious is just how much fun this motor will be on the street. The fun factor is a function of the torque curve, which exceeded 550 lb-ft from below 4,000 rpm to 5,700 rpm. Stick your foot in the throttle of this 427 and you are immediately rewarded with a tidal wave of torque. Big-inch motors snap your neck back like nobody’s business—that’s what makes driving fun. That this one’s going in a little Nova is an over-the-top proposition.
