Chevrolet's 280-, 315-, 335-, and 350-horsepower 348s all had three Rochester two-barrel carburetors. Each carb flowed about 225 cfm. With big port heads and a high-lift camshaft, midrange and top end performance were excellent.

The top-of-the-line Impala series was brand-new in 1958. An Impala is a sleek-running South African deer that can run up to 40 mph while leaping three feet off the ground. In short, little could catch one. Ditto for the '58 four-speed 348 Impala.
