Physical differences between the Motown block and standard Chevy blocks are carried inside in the form of extra material, illustrated here by the material machined away from the front of the lifter bores. This extra bulk allows for expanded water jackets and extra thick cylinder walls. The front and rear bulkheads are 1-inch thicker, too. Altogether, the block weighs about 195 pounds.
