Our friend Bruce has owned his ’65 Vette since the mid-’70s. It was one of the 2,157 that left St. Louis assembly with the all-new L78 396 between the fenders. When Bruce got the car, that engine was long gone. The 402 in it today came out of a ’71 Monte Carlo and has a Comp Cams mild performance flat-tappet hydraulic camshaft with 0.510/0.510 lift, a 110-degree lobe sep angle, 0.270/0.270 duration, dual valvesprings, and stock-ratio stamp steel rockers.
