The new Camaro is pretty stout in stock trim with a fat 6.2L LS3 V-8 lurking underhood. If stock is stout, then modified will be better. We decided to throw a few common upgrades at a manual-trans LS3 SS to see what kind of power GM left on the table for the aftermarket. We took this Victory Red SS to BBK Performance in Temecula, California, and spent a day putting on and tearing off parts and flogging the car on the dyno each time. The first install was a cold air intake system to let some more air into the engine. Then we removed the stock manifolds and bolted up BBK's short-tube headers (CARB approval pending). These will be smog legal once CARB gives the green light for the owners that live in emissions-testing states. After we made a couple pulls on the dyno, we let the system cool down so we could remove the shortys and slide in the stainless steel long-tube headers. All the parts we installed this day are true bolt-in pieces with no cutting, trimming, or modifying of the car necessary, which means everything can be put back to stock in a few hours if you choose. You read that right, all these mods go in pretty quickly. The cold air kit took about 15 minutes; the short- and the long-tubes took a little over an hour with simple hand tools. The parts have a one-year warranty for defects and 30-day satisfaction guarantee. BBK's cold air intake system is offered for the V-8 and V-6 Camaros. It comes with a super-shiny intake tube, black heat shield and a washable high-performance filter. The system can be installed in just a few minutes and will add horsepower by itself, as well as complement future modifications like headers.BBK's cold air intake system is offered for the V-8 and V-6 Camaros.
