We needed to yank the fine Dart 509 to change a leaky oil pan. This led us to swap out the cam while our big-bore 454 (4.500 bore, 4.000 stroke) was out of the engine bay. We would ditch the hydraulic roller (we’ll save it for another build) for a solid roller with more valve lift (solid 0.646/0.653 vs. hydraulic 0.540/0.560-inch), while having the same duration (242/248 at 0.050) and lobe separation angle, 110) as the juice cam. This type of swap will liven up most any engine for increased grunt throughout the engine’s rpm scale.
