Project American Heroes Two 1969 Chevy Camaro Build - The 118-Day Warrior

Made from billet aluminum for strength and visual delight, the Ring Brothers hood hinge for 1967-'69 Camaros is a fantastic addition to the engine compartment. Lightyears ahead of the OEM piece, the Ring Brothers hinge can be anodized in a number of colors. In their words, the hinges are "designed for an easy but not bolt-in application, as some adjustment will be necessary."

Rather than settle for stock, the lower front valence panel sports Marquez driving lights machined from solid 6061-T6 billet aluminum. The lights come with amber LED's. The face is hand-polished to a show finish, and the mounting brackets are laser cut from stainless steel.

Check out that Weiand intake on our 427 LS7 motor. At this angle, one would think that hood is headed for a 1967 Corvette big-block car.

Detroit Speed & Engineering's RS Headlight Door kit replaces the stock vacuum-actuated system on an RS headlamp-equipped 1968 or 1969 Camaro. In our case with Project American Heroes, which started life as a non-RS Camaro, this kit made the conversion to hide-away headlights much easier. Instead of the complicated and bulky OEM vacuum system that certainly costs a small fortune to accumulate, the DSE kit operates the headlight doors electrically.

The DSE RS headlight door kit requires minimal modification, and comes complete with everything needed for installation, including two electric actuators, a control module, harness, mounting brackets, and hardware. It's safe to say that this DSE kit is likely to bring on a welcome wave of RS Camaros, while doing away with a lot of those cars that go down the road winking at you with one door open and another shut.

The grille was painted black and then installed with surround moldings from Classic Industries. With excellent service and commitment to the Heroes car, Classic Industries did not once disappoint us in the 118-day adventure.

Marquez Design makes this custom taillight from solid 6061-T6 billet aluminum. It is hand polished to a show finish, and features LED lights.

Studs are installed in the rear panel, and the light attaches to the studs. The Marquez Design light uses OEM gaskets, and fits perfectly to the panel for a clean, distinctive look.
