Here's the block with the camshaft installed; it awaits assembly as soon as the crankshaft is done with polishing.
Once the main bearings are installed and clearanced, the crankshaft can be dropped in and the main caps torqued to spec. Main bearings are Clevite part No. 2199 HX. Due to the fact that the LS7X block with mains and sleeves checks in at just 98 pounds, Paul has to put his foot on the engine stand when torquing down the mains, or else he'll be dancing with it.
Next, Paul files each piston ring to a certain gap. Each ring then gets fit into its future home and checked with a feeler gauge for accuracy.
Pictured here are the Warhawk's guts: Manley aluminum 4.121-inch diameter pistons with 8cc dish, Eagle 4340 6.125-inch connecting rods, and Total Seal moly rings. Paul carefully installs the slugs into the block via a ring compressor, tapping them in gently. With the parts listed and a 64cc head chamber, compression ratio checks in at a pump-gas-friendly 11.15:1.
