Brothers Performance Warehouse will be hosting its second big car show, sale and dyno event and it new 64,000 square foot facility in Deland, Florida, just minutes from Daytona Speedway off Interstate 4. The date is December 12 from 10-4.

Vortech Engineering, LLC has teamed with Opcon, AB, a Swedish company, to form a new company, VORTECH THREE, Inc., with an expanded technology portfolio and an international market capability.

Vortech Engineering, LLC, a privately held manufacturer of centrifugal compressors for the automotive OEM and aftermarket as well as the industrial and aero segments, has formed an alliance with Stockholm based Opcon. All shares of subsidiary Lysholm AB, will be transferred to the new company. Lysholm is a manufacturer of positive displacement "twin-screw" compressors for automotive OEM and aftermarket segments as well as marine markets. Vortech Engineering's ownership retains majority interest of the new company.

The new firm will be called Vortech Three, Inc. and will provide leadership for the two operating companies: Lysholm/Vortech, which will sell both the centrifugal and screw type PD technology to the transportation sector, and Vortron, a former division of Vortech, which will manufacture industrial and electric powered compressors for the hybrid powered vehicle, aero, and industrial segments.

The advanced twin-screw compressor technology accessed from Opcon by Vortech Three as part of the deal will push Lysholm/Vortech into a world leadership position with both state of the art centrifugal and twin-screw positive displacement compressors for the auto aftermarket and OEM market segments.

"This was a great opportunity for us. Opcon wanted to focus on their green energy business, which opened the way for the deal to occur. We not only get a great existing product and technology, but also access to new technological developments in the future and increased market share" said Jim Middlebrook, President and CEO of Vortech Engineering.

Las Vegas, NV - Phil and Jeremy Gerber of the Roadster Shop were presented with the Goodguys Trendsetter award at this year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The award is presented annually at SEMA to rising young talents in the realm of rod & custom car building.

Together with their father Neal, the Gerber's took ownership of The Roadster Shop in Elgin, Illinois in 2004 to expand the company's product line and raise the bar for Midwestern hot rodding. While developing new lines of chassis and components, the Gerber's discovered the burgeoning performance muscle car and street machine market and jumped in head first.

In 2006, a brilliant orange ground hugging 1966 Chevelle, complete with a custom chassis designed and built in-house, launched a new line of products and a new company - RS Performance Concepts. The Chevelle raised eyebrows throughout the industry and in the magazines and requests from customers for complete turn-key cars soon followed suit. In 2007, a bright green '70 Chevelle served as RS Performance Concepts' lab rat, furthering the performance and design capabilities of the Gerber brothers as well as allowing them to compete in the Goodguys' popular Street Challenge Autocross events. It was also in 2007, the company moved to their all new 30,000 square foot state of the art facility located in Mundelein, IL

Though they had slowly and methodically been working their way into the hot rodding scene, the Gerber's exploded onto the forefront of the industry with the debut the 1962 Corvette "C1RS" at this year's Goodguys PPG Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. Built and designed completely in house by Phil and Jeremy for customer Barry Blomquist, "C1RS" was the talk of the event and the entire industry as the Formula 1 racing inspired Corvette ripped through the Street Challenge Autocross with a winning time of 32.222 seconds while being named the unanimous winner of the Goodguys/Air Ride Technologies 2009 Street Machine of the Year. The Corvette's landmark debut and subsequent victory in Columbus combined with their other builds and innovative chassis design has firmly ensconced Phil and Jeremy Gerber in the annals of hot rodding history. And they're just getting started!

Current projects at the Roadster Shop and RS Performance Concepts include a '70 Challenger with a 528-inch Aluminum Hemi, a '69 Charger with a twin turbo Viper engine, a '31 Model A 5-Window on deuce rails, a Speed '33 roadster with hand fabricated aluminum track nose and injected nail head and many others you'll see on the road in the coming months.

 Design Engineering, Inc, manufacturer of thermal tuning products, has just expanded its line up of Hi-Temp Shrink Tubes. New 3, 6 and 9mm sizes have been added along with an assortment pack consisting of a 4-foot length of each to round out the shrink tube category.  Shrink tubes have long offered an excellent way to insulate and protect electrical connections from dust, solvents and other foreign material as well as providing strain relief. Hi-Temp Shrink Tubes’ 3:1 shrink ratio remains flexible and due to it’s thick wall construction is capable of withstanding temperature ranges of -67°F  to 275°F with a maximum operating temperature of 394°F during short durations of 30 to 60 minutes.  The company will present the modern Yenko almost 44 years to the day that Don Yenko’s Corvair Corsa was officially recognized as a Class D Production Competition Car by the SCCA.
 
The official 2010 Yenko Prototype began its life on a 2010 Camaro SS platform. The vehicle then underwent several significant upgrades including modification to a “Phase I” Yenko Camaro Supercar. Preliminary highlights and specifications of this powerful vehicle include a high performance 600hp supercharged and intercooled LS-based engine, Tremec six speed manual high performance transmission, Hurst short throw shifter, 6-piston big brake package and Magnaflow high-flow cat-back exhaust system.
 
Plans call for three Phases to be available to take the fifth Generation Camaro from ordinary to extraordinary. Phase II and III cars will have higher output engines and even more suspension and handling upgrades.

Nearly 45 years ago, racing legend Don Yenko embarked on a mission to build a racecar that could effectively compete in the 1966 SCCA racing season. His inspiration resulted in the development of the Yenko Stinger, an SCCA racecar based on the Corvair Corsa platform. It was in the last quarter of 1965 that Yenko’s plans for that vehicle came together changing automotive history forever.
 
Originally, the 60s era Yenko car was a special order vehicle, designed and built by Don Yenko Chevrolet in Canonsburg, PA. During our recent road test of the 2010 V-6 Camaro, we had the opportunity to take this picture...

We're gonna have a caption contest of sorts, what can you say about this picture? It was shot on the Tamiami Trail going through the Everglades.

Just finished reading Martyn L. Schorr's remarkable epic, Motion Performance, Tales Of A Muscle Car Builder. Schorr, the former editor of High Performance Cars and Cars magazines back in the swingin' '60s and less swingin' '70s, lived the Motion experience back then and tells the entire tale from beginning to end. 

Much has been written about the Baldwin-Motion supercars that came out of the Baldwin, Long Island, New York speed emporium, but Schorr takes it many steps further. He tells the story of Rosen himself, a kid from Brooklyn who turned his love of high-horsepower and automobiles into a thriving business, building for customers the kinds of cars Chevrolet couldn't—including 454 Camaros and big-block Vegas. Included are hundreds of vintage and current photos of some of the sickest vehicles ever unleashed. If we could have asked for one more thing, we'd have loved to see production numbers. How many of each car were built?

So it seems the final tally is in. The ill-conceived Cash For Clukers program fleeced the taxpayers of $2.77 billion dollars. That's billion with a "B," dear readers. Like the old saying goes, a few more bucks and you're talking serious money.        

According to a story in the Detroit Free Press, the most "clunked" vehicle was the truck that started the Sport Ute craze, the Ford Explorer. An amazing 69,887 of these monstrosities were turned in so perhaps the program was not a complete waste. Of course, outweighing this inadertant highway beautification program were the 131 Corvettes that were traded in and destroyed and (Buick lovers prepare to vomit) one '87 GNX (only 547 were produced). Other casualties to enthusiasts: 1 '92 GMC Typhoon, a 2006 Roush F-150 Stage 3 (supercharged), a Rolls-Royce Continental R, A Mercedes C43 AMG and a '97 Aston Martin DB7 Volante. 

The restoration experts at Year One Inc. have just released some new wheels for Chevy enthusiasts...

There are a lot of us who like the classic looks of the factory steel rally wheels, but wish they were available in some modern sizes and made from aluminum. Well, Year One has just come out with their new 17x9 version of the 5-spoke rally wheel used on 71-72 Chevelles and most of the Second Gen Z/28 Camaros. Here's the lowdown:

This is a 17" x 9" version of the "5 Spoke Rally" wheel that was originally installed on 1970-81 Z28 and 1971-72 Chevelle models. Construction features 5” backspacing and a machined lip, sporting a gunmetal gray powder-coated or polished aluminum finish. Both wheels accept original-style center caps and lug nuts.

I just got back to the office today with what will hopefully be a great and entertaining project car for the readers of Super Chevy...

This '55 has been in my family for over 20 years. Back in about 1985 my Dad traded some parts to a guy that lived down the street from us in Miramar, Fl., for this car. At the time it hadn't run in about three years, but was in good shape and was a steal to say the least.

Going from Miramar to Georgia, then to Daytona where the car's been for the last 14 years, I've done a little work to the car, but never been able to really get the propject rolling. All that's coming to an end now! With the car here in Tampa at our shop, I can finally start getting some honest work done on the '55 again, and getting it roadworth for the first time since 1982!

The fifth-gen Camaro continues its torrid sales pace. According to Automotive News, production of the new F-body was at 64,595 as of October 3. Sales of the Camaro had not been close to that before it went out of production at the end of 2002 and the new car has only been on sale for about six months. The only fourth-gens to sell over 64,000 were the '94 and '95 models, both of which topped 100,000 units.

This is definitely a shot in the arm for GM. Moreover, it continues to crush the rival Mustang, saleswise. For the week of 9/28-10/3, Camaro production outstripped the Ford 3,633-2018. Of course, with no new cars offered for seven years, there is obviously a lot of pent-up demand for the Camaro. On the other hand, in this economy there are no "gimmes" and the Camaro is hardly inexpesive.

Look for a road test on both the V-6 and SS models in an upcoming Super Chevy. We have drag strip, slalom, skidpad and road course numbers. Stay tuned.

Once upon a time, the '58 Chevy got about as much respect as Rodney Dangerfield. Oh, after the film American Graffiti, interest picked up, but it died down again soon thereafter. We have seen a resurgence over the last two years as people finally got an appreciation for this one-year-only design. But no one tops John Cox of California, who has six of these bad boys, including a 4-speed, fuel-injected Impala.
