It's not surprising that the new Corvette Stingray will be the pace car for the 2013 Indianapolis 500-you almost had to expect it. What is a bit shocking is that this is the 12th time it's paced the big race since 1978, and no replicas will be offered for public consumption.

Many car enthusiasts dream of one day taking their cars to the limit at the historic Bonneville Salt Flats near Wendover, Utah. However, The Flats, the name given to a 45-square mile area of flat barren land coated with a salt crust, are rapidly deteriorating. Located where Lake Bonneville once existed, the salt crust is rapidly depleting and today only about an inch of salt remains. The Bonneville Salt Flats have served as the location for numerous Land Speed records, and are a vital part of the history of American automotive performance. Chevrolet took the wraps off the 2014 Camaro at the New York International Auto Show and surprised the crowd by showing the all-new Z/28. This name has been missing from the Camaro lineup since Chevy brought the ponycar back in the spring of 2009. The new car is stripped down for lighter weight, has a revamped suspension and the outgoing Corvette's LS7 427 small-block. Chevy's claiming it'll lap a road course 3-seconds a lap quicker than the current ZL1, and if that's true, it's not only the greatest handling Camaro ever, but will put its track performance on par with many supercars from Europe and Japan. The 2014 Camaro models feature a revised exterior design that integrates high-performance aerodynamics for more efficient cooling and stability at high speeds. The new Camaro Z/28 also features a full aerodynamics package that creates downforce at speed, which helps make it the most track-capable offering in Camaro's history.

Holley is pleased to announce that the company’s HP EFI engine control unit (ECU) will come as standard equipment on all of Chevrolet Performance’s COPO Camaro factory-built bad boys in ’13. This is the third Holley brand product to make it onto the COPO Camaro. Holley’s Hi-Ram intake manifolds and Earl’s transmission coolers were on the previous models.

By the fall of 1977, when the new models were hitting the showrooms, the twilight of the twilight of the malaise era and its lack of performance was on the horizon. For the Camaro, the gloom of the mid-‘70s was finally being cast off, and some excitement starting to reignite in the lineup. The year before the Z28 reappeared after a brief absence, and for the ’78 model, GM had a few things in store for the Camaro.

Jim Campbell spends more of GM's money on racing in a single year than you will probably make in a lifetime. Chevrolet competes is the biggest of the big leagues in racing, stretching from NASCAR to NHRA to Rolex Grand Am to American Le Mans Series, Indycar, and the World Touring Car Championship, right down to the local quarter-mile bullrings in your neighborhood and the club gymkhana on the high school parking lot. We thought it might be a good idea to check in with Campbell at midseason in 2012 to see where Chevrolet is, and where it might be going in the future. We sent our man in Detroit, Jim McCraw, to sit down with Campbell and get some answers. His report:

Yup, the Corvette has been around for six decades, so when Chevy offered up an absolutely loaded, anniversary-model GS convertible for our annual pilgrimage to July’s Columbus Goodguys Nationals, we jumped at the chance. Not having spent much time in any C6, our first impressions were mixed. It was pouring rain in Detroit when we picked up the LS3 roadster (sorry: the top-dog 427-powered version was unavailable), so we hardly had a chance to admire its distinctive anniversary color combo of Arctic White with silver stripes, paired with a Diamond Blue interior and top, before jumping in and splashing south down Interstate I-75 towards Ohio.

Chevrolet today opened a new chapter in its storied racing history, unveiling its eagerly anticipated 2013 NASCAR Chevrolet SS race car. Powered by the legendary small block V-8 engine, the rear-wheel drive performance sedan will be Chevrolet's newest entry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, beginning with the 2013 SpeedWeeks in Daytona, Fla.

Full-time students in the United States and Canada pursuing a career in the automotive industry may be eligible for financial assistance through the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund (SMSF).Over the past two decades, SEMA scholarships have supported over countless students with more than $1,000,000 in scholarship awards. The program rewards the best and brightest students engaged in studies leading to careers in the automotive aftermarket or related fields. The application deadline for the upcoming year is April 2, 2010. SEMA will offer four-year, two-year, graduate, loan forgiveness and member/dependent scholarships.

SEMA, working on behalf of California enthusiasts of specialty vehicles (street rods, custom vehicles, kit cars and replicas) and in cooperation with the Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Automotive Repair, Air Resources Board and Attorney General's office has resolved a complex and threatening issue to this market segment and the industry it serves. "This breakthrough procedure allows owners of certain specially constructed vehicles (SCVs) to avoid the pitfalls of a previously muddy process for legally registering and titling such vehicles in California," said Steve McDonald, SEMA Vice President of Government Affairs. "Under this process, vehicle owners can avoid a situation that could have led to confiscated SCVs and law enforcement action. Further, the program now permits these vehicles to demonstrate state emissions-compliance requirements."
