Those who dreamed of a Chevrolet version of the now-departed Pontiac G8 muscle sedan had their dream turn into a nightmare on October 5, 2009, when Chevrolet announced that the all-new Chevy Caprice would debut in 2011. The only problem is that it is for law-enforcement use only. Civilians need not apply. Thanks for nothing.

The "LP" in this story is California's "Big" Leroy Peterson. He has been a car guy for 25 of his 37 years. But for the last 16, his wife and three kids came first. In the film developing business, Leroy kept his decades-long Chevelle ownership dream alive by stashing away all the overtime pay he could-knowing that some day his A-body might come in.

AO: We did something for the enthusiasts who wanted us to get the car out on the road in a hurry. Last October 13, we opened the Chevy website to take early orders, not something we normally do on a new program, and by the end of the 2008 we had 13,000 early orders. Normally, we wouldn't start taking dealer orders until shortly before the start of production. So it did add to the time lag of those customers who placed early orders. We've got about 19,000 sold orders. We started production March 16.

The one that got away. Most car guys have at least one story about a car long departed that evokes a quiet moment of reflection and personal suffering. Usually the stories involve a Bow Tie that might've had something special about it, or enough potential to fill a supertanker. Seldom does it involve one of the rarest cars Chevrolet ever made, the '67 Z/28. Out of 220,906 Camaros built in the 1967 model year, only 602 would have the special Z/28 option.
