Corvette National Day Of Recognition
In honor of GM's 100th anniversary, Mid America Motorworks (the creator of "Drive Your Corvette to Work Day") has petitioned Congress to declare June 30 a National Day of Recognition for Corvette. Arguably the greatest automobile to come off the assembly line, the Corvette has been unmatched for over 50 years in style, speed, and desirability.

The petition is being presented by Congressman John Shimkus (R-IL) to honor the day the very first Corvette rolled off the assembly line in 1953. Every Corvette owner and admirer is encouraged to petition his or her congressional representative in support of this resolution. For more information, visit the Mid America Motorworks Web site at or call 800/500-1500.

Conceptually Flawless
Street Visions Concept Hot Rods and Street Machines of Salisbury, North Carolina, has started construction of its '73 Z28 Camaro. This is just one of the many insane concepts this shop is producing, and it has decided to make this one a reality. The Camaro screams innovation at every turn with contributions from all eras of GM production cars, including a '63 Vette rear window, '69 Firebird taillights, '67 Vette bumper, and '67 Camaro quarters, just to name a few. Under the hood will be a 502ci big-block crate motor with a Tri-power carb setup from Barry Grant. It is set to be unveiled at the SEMA Trade Show in Las Vegas later this year.

ZL-1 For Sale!
Not exactly, but the original Fred Gibb Chevrolet building is being sold by the current owners. The place where many a '60s supercar dream began, the home of the wildest car to ever leave a General Motors factory, can be yours. Fred Gibb was instrumental in the creation of the ZL-1 Camaro. He and Dick Harrell tore up the AHRA circuit in ZL-1 Camaro No. 1 and ultimately took delivery of 50 of these hot rods, which are worth six figures today. For any information regarding the present sale of the building, contact Terry Reid at 239/850-8531.

50+ TPI Horses From BBK
BBK Performance Parts has done it again. It is set to release its new SSI intake manifold for Tuned Port Injection cars. Consisting of 1 3/4-inch tubular runners, a cast aluminum baseplate, a lightweight, dome-shaped top cover, and 14-inch runners, there is little else in the aftermarket that will supply this much bang for the buck.

With an easy fit under all TPI hoods, installation is a cinch. No need to hit eBay for factory fuel rails, injectors, or an EGR system, because the SSI intake reuses all the original fuel plumbing. An O-ringed baseplate and lower intake provide a leakfree fit and easy installation of the runner tubes.

BBK got a hold of a bone-stock '88 IROC for chassis dyno testing. Dyno runs were made with the automatic shifter in "D," starting at 65 mph/3,000 rpm and taken all the way up 5,500 rpm, with the stock intake pooping out at around five grand. At 5,074 rpm, a gain of 50 horsepower and 52 lb-ft of torque was observed.

The role of the Political Action Committee is to act as watchdog for our industry and be our voice on Capitol Hill.

Also, Super Chevy publisher Ed Zinke (shown here with his award) was named 2008 MPMC Media Person of the Year at the annual Media Trade Conference in Los Angeles in January. The Motorsports Parts Manufacturer Council awarded Ed with this high honor due to his enthusiasm and unrelenting ability to help the aftermarket industry in any way, shape, or form.

Corvette Winter
At the Barrett-Jackson auction in mid-January, Corvette fever hit the chopping block with the sale of two magnificent pieces of machinery. The first '09 Corvette ZR1, nicknamed the "Blue Devil" (the only new ZR1 to be sprayed in Marina blue), commanded a staggering $1 million. Its 620 horsepower and 595 lb-ft of torque put this monster in the company of few others. General Motors expects annual production slightly less than 2,000 units and a price tag around $100,000.

Also, keeping up with Corvette tradition, GM Performance Parts auctioned off the first Anniversary Edition 427ci ZL1 crate engine. The hammer dropped and the engine was sold to Jim Barber, the owner of Classic Automotive Restoration Specialists, for $55,000 after a spirited round of bidding. With an MSRP around $16,000 and only 427 to be produced, Chevy enthusiasts are drooling to get their hands on one of these.
