On Monday June, 13th, Big Red, one of the most iconic 1969 Camaros on the planet, was involved in a testing incident at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, which caused the car to break out in a massive fire. Unfortunately, the damage was severe enough that the car will not be repaired in time for the upcoming 2016 Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb event.

A spokesperson for Big Red confirmed that no one, including RJ Gottlieb, owner and driver of the well-known Camaro, was hurt in the incident.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The spokesperson went on to say that everyone at the Big Red camp would like to wish their fellow Pikes Peak competitors a safe, dry, and quick week of racing, and they are looking forward to getting back to the mountain next year.
