The first of anything is pretty cool, and the first C7 Grand Sport and first 2017 50th Anniversary Camaro will be no exceptions. Collectors are often willing to shell out big bucks to be the first kid on the block with the latest toy and it’s a bonus when all the proceeds are going to a great cause. GM has worked with Barrett-Jackson for many years when it comes to charity auctions and their Palm Beach auction had these two special Chevrolets roll over the auction block. In the case of the ‘Vette, the proceeds went to benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute while the full sales price of the Camaro went to United Way of Southeastern Michigan. When Barret-Jackson does these charity auctions they waive all the typical buyer and seller fees. That means 100-percent of the gavel price goes directly to the charity. At the end of the evening the Corvette brought in a final bid of $170,000 while the gavel on the Camaro fell to the tune of $150,000. That’s some serious coin that will go a long way to helping these non-profit organizations with their respective missions. Here’s a rundown on the two lots. Lot #3003 - The winning bidder will receive the first retail production 2017 Corvette Grand Sport Collector Edition VIN #001. The latest member of the Corvette lineup, the 2017 Grand Sport carries on the racing spirit of the original 1963 model, combining the power of the legendary LT1 6.2-liter engine with a lightweight, race-bred chassis and aerodynamics package to provide incredible grip and handling. The 2017 Grand Sport's V8 engine is capable of 460hp and 465 ft/lbs of torque. The compact design lowers the hoodline, providing optimal weight balance. A dry-sump oil system delivers oil flow through the most extreme cornering, helping Grand Sport deliver a consistently high level of performance. This Grand Sport Collector Edition is a limited-production edition and features a Watkins Glen Gray Metallic exterior with Tension Blue hash-mark graphics, satin black full-length stripes, black wheels and an exclusive Tension Blue full leather and suede-wrapped interior. The Tension Blue color is a bold, modern take on the hue historically associated with the Grand Sport. Inside, a three-dimensional representation of an original Grand Sport race car is embossed in the headrests, and that shape is also used on an instrument panel plaque that carries a unique build-sequence number. 100 percent of the winning bid will benefit the Karmanos Cancer Institute. The Karmanos Cancer Institute is a unique, integrated center of research, patient care and education, dedicated to the prevention, early detection, treatment and eventual eradication of cancer.
