Team Big Red Camaro, the team that supports one of the most famous 1969 Camaros ever, announced it will auction its 2015 “Big Red Edition Z/28” Camaro April 16, 2016, at Mecum Auctions in Houston, TX (Lot #S84) to benefit the Ride 2 Recovery veteran’s charity.
The team has assembled the 2015 Camaro over the past nine months in the spirit of the 1969 Big Red Camaro, which was a pioneer in Pro Touring and has transformed from a road racer to a land-speed and standing-mile racer and back again.
“When we decided to do this build for the charity Ride 2 Recovery, we set out to choose the best products available for the modern Z/28, in order to pay tribute to the car I have raced since I was 17 years old,” said Big Red owner RJ Gottlieb. “It was important to me, my family, and the team that we make the Big Red Edition Camaro live up to the original car in every way possible. We are grateful to the many people and companies who’ve assisted us with this effort and we are proud of the results.”
Gottlieb and his team hope car will fetch a handsome price at auction from a worthy bidder and enable Ride 2 Recovery to carry on providing amazing services for American veterans for years to come.

About the Build and Design
Custom, handmade, one-of-a-kind wheels were built by Forgeline Wheels to both emulate and modernize the iconic gold wheels of the original Big Red while providing the strength and craftsmanship needed for a high-horsepower, modern car.
The first production supercharger for the 7.0L LS Camaro powerplant was engineered and provided by Street Legal Performance (SLP), known for its decades of commitment to providing performance parts and building the fastest Camaros from the factory and in the aftermarket. In addition to the supercharger, there are subframe connectors, intake, short-shift kit, and exhaust from sister company Loudmouth Exhaust.
Quickly rising in the ranks of performance suspension offerings, UMI provided a full rear suspension kit that includes tie-rods, trailing arms, and a tunnel brace. UMI parts are designed and fabricated in the United States and constructed of hardened steel and chromoly, providing greater strength and lower weight to support the demands of a high-horsepower car while allowing for easy adjustability.
New Pirelli Trofeo R tires were provided by Tire Rack and fitted to the new custom Forgeline wheels.
This car would not be here if it were not for the generous contribution of time, space, and labor from our friends at Hillbank. The Big Red Edition car was tirelessly wrenched on by the finest mechanics: Ashton Stander and Michael Doscher, along with Team Big Red’s own Shawn Umphries in the first-rate Hillbank facilities.
The entire interior of the Big Red Edition Camaro was envisioned and voted on by the fans of Big Red via social media. The ideas were then carried out by Gary Disney at Designer Auto Accessories, where the concepts were put into reality, from the floor to the headliner.
