Chevrolet announced today (April 24, 2015) that it will produce 500 special edition Corvettes to pay homage to the Corvette Racing program. The 2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition is offered in the signature yellow livery (Yellow Tintcoat, new for 2016) or Black with accents to emulate its forbearer. Both coupe and convertible versions are available, in the 3LZ trim only with the Z07 Performance Package. The lightweight carbon-ceramic brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and adjustable front/rear aero help elevate the already impressive performance. (Those tires are like gumballs!)
In addition to the C7.R graphics package, each 2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition will come with: yellow brake calipers, black wheels with a yellow accent stripe and Corvette Racing logo center caps, clear carbon fiber ground effects, clear carbon fiber hood section, and Spectra Gray Metallic-painted grilles and hood vents. The interior boasts just as many upgrades including Jet Black leather with “sueded” microfiber accents on the instrument panel, doors, Competition Sport seats, steering wheel, and shifter. Yellow contrast stitching is also used throughout for an exotic and racy look. The interior is capped off with high-gloss carbon fiber interior trim, Corvette Racing sill plates, and a numbered C7.R Edition plaque displaying the build number (starting with VIN 700001). It also comes with an indoor car cover adorned with C7.R graphics.
“Corvette Racing’s legacy and technology were significant influences on the development of the Corvette Z06 and the new C7.R Edition honors the direct link between the racecar and the production model,” said Harlan Charles, Corvette product and marketing manager. “It also advances Chevrolet’s plan to offer special-edition models that offer a unique, personal ownership experiences, which become important parts of Corvette’s legacy. Combined with the 650-horsepower supercharged LT4 engine, true aerodynamic downforce and performance technologies such as Magnetic Ride Control, Performance Traction Management and an electronic limited slip differential, the Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition offers capability matched only by an elite fraternity of the world’s supercars and special-edition exclusivity that is sure to make it an instant collector’s item.”
Chevrolet also noted several changes to the 2016 model year that will be incorporated into the 2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition including a new front curb view parking camera and a power-cinching trunk latch. Several new design packages are available as well for 2016 – Twilight Blue, Spice Red, and Jet Black – that use a similar approach as the C7.R edition to carry a consistent color theme throughout the body and interior.
