The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is peerless in the realm of American muscle. The 505hp beast took down the Shelby GT500 and the Boss 302 Laguna Seca by a considerable margin during testing on GM’s “Lutz-ring” (see chart below), and its Nürburgring times are the stuff of lore – leaving Porsches and Lamborghinis in its dust. But, of course, there are plenty of doubters in the world. And our friends at Super Chevy were happy to bare witness to the Z/28’s incredible capabilities at a test session at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.

Editor Jim Campisano got access to the Z, making hot laps and taking a ride-along with some of the amazing drivers that make up the Camaro’s crew of engineers. Among them: none other than Mark Stielow, who many have credited as the creator of the pro touring movement. Follow the video below and watch Stielow glide the Z around Barber’s 2.38-mile, 17-turn course. For reference, Stevenson Motorsports ran a 1:26.61 last year in the No. 57 Camaro to take the pole in GRAND-AM. However, the No. 9 Camaro went 1:35.59, which was the seventh spot on the grid. And those are fully gutted racecars.
