Produced on February 18th in 1963, the stunning Sebring Silver-on-Black ’63 Corvette Z06 “Tanker” split-window coupe you see here is one of a mere 199 Z06s built before General Motors stopped production to comply with the industry-wide self-imposed ban on racing activities, according to the NCRS/GM Shipping Data Report. Now it is up for grabs at the Mecum Kissimmee auction this weekend.

The Corvette is equipped with a rare N03 36-gallon fuel tank (only 63 built) feeding the requisite L84 solid-lifter 327 cubic-inch fuel-injected small-block V-8 producing 360 horsepower. A 4-speed manual transmission delivers power to the rear wheels through a Positraction rear end.

Because it’s a Z06, the Corvette is equipped with heavy-duty brakes and suspension, but it also has power brakes, radio delete, aluminized off-road exhaust, Soft Ray tinted glass, and 6.70-15 Blackwall tires with full-size wheel covers.

In the 1970s, the car belonged to noted Z06 historian and restorer Eric Gill during which time it underwent a $138,000 body-off correct professional restoration by the Naber Brothers of Houston, Texas. The Corvette is still equipped with its original VIN and trim tags.

A Bloomington Gold Certification in June 2012, multiple regional NCRS Top Flight Awards in October 2012 and January 2013, and Best in Class Awards at the Santa Fe Concorso in September 2012 and Hilton Head Concours d/Elegance in November 2013 are all on the Corvette’s list of accomplishments. In 2013 it was displayed at the famous National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and it has been featured in many editorial articles as far back as 1977. Volumes of research, owner history, photographs dating back to the ‘60s and restoration receipts are all included with sale, as well as all show awards, certificates, judging sheets, and a letter of appreciation from the National Corvette museum.
