If you haven’t seen it yet, chances are you will very soon. A video surfaced this week of a race this past weekend between an automatic 2013 Chevy Camaro ZL1 and a 2012 McLaren MP4-12C at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Florida. The video (check it out below) shows the ZL1 completely owning the McLaren off the line with the end result being a 10.552-second at 131.66mph run for the Camaro and a 10.541-second at 134.79mph run for the McLaren (with the ZL1 crossing the checkered first).

 Camaro ZL1 On Track 2/3

We spoke to ZL1 owner Stephen Vigoa this week, and he told us his ZL1 is stock with just a few bolt-ons: Roto-Fab cold air intake, American Racing long-tube headers, a 102mm throttle body, upper and lower pulley, and a custom tune from Redline Motorsports.

He also told us that his ZL1 holds the record for fastest bolt-on ZL1 with a best run of 10.43 at 131mph.

After we spoke to him, the owner of the McLaren defended himself on a forum thread by explaining that his MP4-12C is completely stock save for a tune and ran the quarter-mile on street tires. His best run of the day was 10.19 at 137mph, but for this run in particular, his 75 year-old father had jumped behind the wheel for a fun run. Rematch anyone?

Regardless, we’re super impressed by this mildly modified ZL1 – running pretty consistent mid-10-second times in the quarter-mile is no joke.

Check it out and let us know what you think!
