General Motors’ website “FastLane” recently hosted a video about the role technology played in the design of the 2015 Corvette Z06’s interior. The Z06 – being touted the most track-capable Corvette in Chevrolet history – is also being called the most technologically advanced of all its brethren . . . and for good reason!
Ryan Vaughan, design manager for performance car interiors at GM, talks about the technologies packed inside the new Z06. Everything from the 8-inch touch screen to the USB connection to the Performance Data Recorder and the AppShop is brand-new and user friendly.
“It’s thinking about the way the technology works and the way people use it first,” Vaughan said, “Before you fall in love with the styling of the car, how it’s designed, you need to get the technology right and get the interfaces right and then create a beautiful design around that.”
He goes on to explain PDR, which is a fully-integrated video, audio, and motorsport-inspired system that allows users to record high-definition video complete with telemetry overlays of their driving experiences both on and off the track. Video can be reviewed on the 8-inch touchscreen while parked or downloaded to a computer for sharing. The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is the first vehicle to offer this technology.
