We recently learned that the same day Hennessey tested its 603 hp, 2014 Chevrolet Corvette that ran more than 200 mph, the company also made a YouTube video of a HPE600 Supercharged 2014 Chevy SS making a 163 mph pass. The video consists of the Hennessey SS making a pass on the closed down the Grand Parkway toll road near Houston, Texas; the day was spent testing the new toll setup for the Department of Transportation and Department of Public Safety.
The all-new 2014 Chevrolet SS sports sedan is absolutely incredible, from the factory. Coming stock with a 6.2L V-8 good for 415 hp and 415 lb-ft of twist, the 4-door Chevrolet SS is a force not to be reckoned with. To add to the SS’ already successful platform, Hennessey is offering a TVS2300 Supercharger System bolted to the same LS3. Also installed is a HPE Air Induction System, Custom HPE Pulley, a Fuel System Upgrade, High Flow Fuel Injector Upgrade, and 160 Degree Thermostat. The entire setup is good for 600hp at 6,300rpm. With the added power, the 2014 Chevy SS is arguably the fastest, most affordable grocery getter on the planet.

The toll Hennessey was helping to test will use the TransCore eGo tagging system (also known as “TxTag”) that recognizes each car that passes through. The goal is to bill drivers without having them stop. We suppose the biggest problem in the past has been recognizing cars that pass through at high speeds. Hennessey used the opportunity to help test the system, while also testing its own performance vehicles.
The 2014 Chevrolet SS sports sedan with the Hennessey HPE600 package reaches a top speed of 163mph due to a restriction from the factory transmission. The SS six-speed automatic transmission will only allow the car to reach its max speed in fifth gear, possibly something worth upgrading? We’ll let you decide. Check-out the video yourself to see the quickest 2014 Chevrolet SS sports sedan we’ve found on YouTube. It gets to 163mph in no time.
