Last week we brought you news that Chevrolet plans to unveil the newest Corvette – the 2015 Corvette Z06 – in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Today, our sources brought us spy shots of General Motors engineers working on a full prototype!
We know that the Z06 is going to be a real performer based on the huge, cross-drilled brake rotors (which look to be carbon ceramic) and large black calipers. The Z06 in question is also rocking a set of new multi-spoke wheels paired with extremely wide high-performance tires.
As was visible in the original teaser picture we provided you with, we know that an air vent has been added in front of the rear tire, and an aggressive-looking rocker panel lends to the antagonistic appearance of the car.
Though obviously camouflaged, we can see the new front fascia of the Z06, with what looks like new aerodynamic elements flanking the grille opening. New sculpting is visible but hidden, including a more pronounced bump on the hood to potentially make room for a supercharger.
Speaking of superchargers, a recently leaked photo (not shown) also suggests that under the hood of the brand-new Corvette Z06 will be an “LT4” – the supercharged variation of the Stingray’s 6.2L V-8 powerplant. We figure the blown V-8 should be able to provide us with approximately 600-650 horsepower.
Stay tuned for the complete unveiling of the new 2015 Corvette Z06 at the Detroit Auto Show next month, with production beginning in the third quarter of 2014.
