We don’t hear much about Pontiac G8s conquering the track or the show field – mostly because Pontiac only made them in the United States under two model years (2008 and 2009), so there weren’t all that many of them built to begin with. We were super excited when we came across this awesome video of a G8 belonging to Rick Crawford Racing running a quarter-mile in 10.79 at 130mph. According to the second video, they have since run a new best of 10.59 at 129mph.
Rick Crawford Racing’s G8 could possibly be the fastest all-motor G8 in the world, although we can’t guarantee it. Apparently the build goes a little something like this: a stock 6.0L short-block equipped with ported 821 heads, a Lunati cam that measures out at 223/232-.625/.600-111, 11.5:1 compression, an LS9 valvetrain, Tri-Y headers off of a Camaro, a 3-inch exhaust, 3.45 gears, and a weight reduction of 200 pounds.
“Originally we were hoping to get low-11’s,” Crawford said. “A couple guys dipped into 11.30’s, but mostly it was 11.40’s for guys that just did everything they thought they could to the car: drag packs, weight out of them, gutted, whatever, and it just seems like there was a boundary there.”
So check it out and let us know if you think there might be a faster all-motor G8 in your area. We’d love to hear all about it.
