It’s that time of year again, when giving is better than receiving. The good people of the Southern California Chevelle Camino Club (SCCCC), Automobile Driving Museum (ADM) and Car Craft Magazine, will help the Spark of Love foundation with a toy drive this Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 12pm - 4 pm. We encourage everyone and anyone to stop by and help fill the El Camino bed with donation of a new, unwrapped toy or sporting good.
Originally founded in 1976 as the “Toys for Needy Children,” Spark of Love was renamed in 1992 as it expanded into a regional toy drive among fire departments in the five counties surrounding Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and Sertoma club have been gathering toys for families that have experienced a sudden catastrophic loss. Currently, an advisory council of both firefighters and staff from TV station ABC7 now oversee the program.
Each year a local fire station crew and volunteers accompany Santa Claus to deliver gifts deserving children whenever possible. Firefighters take the opportunity to reintroduce important fire safety lessons during the holiday season. In recent years the Spark of Love toy drive has netted over half a million toys within the five counties of metro Los Angeles, but infant and teen items often come up short. Below are suggestions for donation of a new, unwrapped toy or sporting good.
