Chevrolet recently posted a video to its ChevroletInEurope YouTube channel featuring Patrick Herrmann, Technical Manager at Chevrolet Europe, driving the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray on Germany’s famous Autobahn.
“One very cool feature is, on the Corvette, that you can time yourself from 0 to 100, or to 200, or to whatever,” Herrmann says. “You will see that it’s not so easy to get a really good time from 0 to 100 as a lot of people are thinking.”
He goes on to explain that tire temperature and avoiding wheelspin are vital factors in achieving the best possible acceleration time. The 6.2L V-8 powerplant under the hood can crank out all the horsepower in the world, but if you can’t keep the tires planted to the ground, that horsepower is as good as useless.
It’s kind of unsettling watching Herrmann max the car out on a public highway alongside slower moving vehicles, but the Autobahn is free of speed limitations, so he’s not doing anything illegal.
Herrmann speaks in terms of kilometers per hour rather than miles per hour, so keep that in mind as you watch the video that we’ve posted below.
