Most of us seem to have a soft spot for heartwarming stories of veterans overcoming the odds and being rewarded for their service. This is one of those stories. eBay Motors and West Coast Customs have come together to honor four inspirational veterans by surprising them each with a custom-built vehicle, including one Chevy Camaro. The program is called "The Road Home" and along with the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), United States service members will be honored just before Veterans Day.
Each of the four vehicles has been built specifically for its intended veteran and tailored by West Coast Customs to fit his or her personality and interests. Both the base vehicles and the majority of parts used were sourced from eBay and most were purchased through the eBay Motors mobile application.
A 1968 Camaro was built to honor the recipient's love of classic cars. The West Coast Customs team maintained the Camaro's iconic style and simply enhanced the muscle car's sleek lines. Another veteran will receive a late-1960s Chevy Suburban hot rod, which was built taking the veteran's need for a family car into account. Undergoing a complete overhaul, the classic Suburban was given a rat racer-inspired look and personal touches including a pop-up table for his children.
Although all four vehicles already have homes, West Coast Customs has built a fifth vehicle that is up for grabs! You can enter to win the 2012 Chrysler 300S by visiting ebay.com/TheRoadHome and viewing a behind-the scenes episode to gain a West Coast Customs promo code, by creating/updating a profile on eBay Garage, or by making a donation to IAVA.
An episode of Inside West Coast Customs will be dedicated to "The Road Home" so that viewers can watch as three of the veterans receive their vehicles. The special will be broadcast on Sunday, November 10th on FOX Sports Networks (FSN).
"We are honored to work with West Coast Customs and the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America to thank these four very deserving service members and car fans in a personal way, with custom-built vehicles tailored specifically for them," said Steve Yankovich, vice president of innovation and new ventures at eBay. "The IAVA's involvement in this program helps us to extend the reach of this program beyond the four veterans being honored to recognize and support servicemen and women around the country."
Additionally, members of the military and their families can access discounted offers from various partners of "The Road Home." All they need to do is simply verify their military ID through TroopID and they can instantly claim the offers from companies such as Under Armour, CoffeeForLess.com, Sweet Stays for Soldiers, and more.
