As shipment of the new 2014 Corvette Stingray is in its beginning stages, testing of the European model has begun overseas at the historic Nürburgring in Nürburg, Germany. Sales in Europe are scheduled to begin in a few months.
"Nürburgring is renowned for its demanding race track and it is perfectly suited for our purpose, which is to fine-tune the ride and handling characteristics of the European Corvette Stingray," said Jim Mero, vehicle dynamics engineer at General Motors. "We are paying particular attention to the suspension set-up and the steering at Nürburgring. European roads are quite distinct and different from those in the U.S., and so are driving habits."
Both of the Corvettes currently undergoing testing are being exposed to a number of different road surfaces. All testing procedures are in accordance with General Motors' standard quality control program. All new Chevy models in Europe must pass each test before the car can be sold to the public.
Perhaps the coolest thing about all of this is that you can follow along through social media as Patrick Herrmann, technical manager at Chevrolet Europe, puts the Corvettes through the paces. Click the links below to check it out and check back for lap times and information as it becomes available!
