Chevrolet handed the keys to the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray over to the press this week for some hair-raising fun in Monterey, California, and surrounding areas. Our own Vette editor Jay Heath was one of the lucky few invited out by Chevy to jump behind the wheel of the all-new C7.

The 2014 Stingray, complete with an LT1 under the hood, cranks out an impressive 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque - all while maintaining an EPA -estimated fuel-efficiency of 17 miles per gallon in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

As you may already know from our previous news releases, the new Corvette's LT1 engine has been fitted with several advanced technologies to aid it in achieving its new power rating, including: direct injection, Corvette's first-ever active fuel management system, and continuously variable valve timing which supports an advanced combustion system, just to name a few. Some additional engine features to look forward to include an advanced oiling system with oil-spray piston cooling and available dry-sump oiling, engine-mounted, camshaft-driven fuel pump to support the direct injection system, an intake manifold with "runners in a box" design that allows for high-efficiency airflow packaged beneath the Corvette's low hood line, and high-flow, four-into-one exhaust manifolds based on the design of the LS7 engine.

All of this, paired with a complete appearance overhaul inside and out, makes for another generation of Corvette that will be difficult to outshine.

You can read all about his experience in the January 2014 issue of Vette and of course, right here on, but here are a few teaser shots to tide you over until then.
