It’s official, GM has announced the specifications, price and sale date for the upcoming 2014 Chevrolet SS Sport Sedan, and with it comes an impressive horsepower rating! Only offered in the U.S., the SS is Chevy’s first rear-wheel drive sport sedan since 1996. The Sedan will cost $44,470, including a $995 destination charge, and will hit sales floors starting in the fourth quarter of 2013.
“The all-new SS is engineered for performance,” Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing said. “Adding the SS to the lineup completes a trifecta that includes the all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray and Camaro Z/28.”
The 2014 Chevrolet SS Sport Sedan will come with only two options, a power-operated sunroof ($900) and full-size spare tire ($500). Yes, you read correctly, $45k does not include a full-size spare these days!
The SS will have an LS3 6.2L small-block V-8 packed between the fenders, churning out an SAE certified 415 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. GM claims the car will travel from 0 to 60 mph in about five seconds. Harnessing all that power will be a six-speed automatic transmission, no manual trans is offered. Chevy did note that the automatic can be shifted manually using TAPshift paddles mounted on the steering wheel.
The rear axle will house a 3.27:1 gear set and will connect to the wheels via a MacPherson strut front and multi-link independent rear suspension. Brembo ventilated, 14-inch front brakes will do the majority of the stopping. The setup will include two-piece rotors and four-piston calipers to ensure a quick hault.
Wheels and Tires:
The all-new 2014 Chevrolet SS Sport Sedan will hug the pavement with forged aluminum wheels and high-performance Bridgestone tires. Upfront will be 19 x 8.5-inch wheels with P245/40ZR19 tires; in the rear will be 19 x 9-inch wheels with P275/35ZR19 tires.
Interior and Exterior:
All interiors will come Jet Black and feature sport, front bucket seats. A standard GPS-based navigation system will help guide drivers to their destination, while heated front seats keep butts warm. An aluminum hood and rear deck lid will lighten the car by 30 percent compared to steel panels. A choice of 5 colors will be available to coat the sheet metal: Mystic Green, Silver Ice Metallic, Red Hot 2, Phantom Black Metallic or Heron White.
