Late in the afternoon yesterday, I was taking a breather from releasing our February issue and started thinking about the upcoming Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Sin City, or Las Vegas if you prefer. If this is new to you, it's an annual event that takes place over the course of a week, showcasing the latest and greatest components from the performance automotive aftermarket. This includes everything from aesthetic enhancing items to suspension and brake upgrades, along with our personal favorite: hard-core goodies to increase horsepower in our four-cycle powerplants.
Aside from making a mental list of the items I needed to bring, I was more focused on what to expect, also letting my predictions run wild. And while this can be considered the center of the car guy universe, there's only one problem, if you want to check it out: Entry to the show is exclusive to those in our trade, which means it's not open to the general public. Don't worry, I'll be snapping loads of images of the things that catch my eye, and you can expect to see that story next month.
If there's one thing I dig, it's getting the inside scoop.
Back to my original thought, I have to admit it, one of the greatest aspects of this gig is getting to know everyone-the owners, engineers, and the sales teams of just about every major manufacturer in the automotive industry. In fact, I received a phone call from the big man himself at ProCharger. As you know, ProCharger produces a supercharger for nearly every application, be it a carburetor or fuel injection, and have won more heads-up drag racing championships than any other blower company in the market. So, needless to say, I was pretty excited when he said they have big news for this year's SEMA show. As he went on to explain the details, it hit me: I'm hearing some of the coolest info and the latest in supercharger technology before it hits the streets! We're talking about a product that'll revolutionize supercharging to a whole new level.
While I can't get into the details just yet, I'm proud to say that we'll be the first to showcase the new product on the Chevrolet side, and you'll be able to read all about it in the months to come. These days, when it seems like you can get all the info you need off the Internet, I'm going to argue that and simply say, nope, not true at all.
