Once again I’m pecking at the keyboard from my favorite lounge chair, up in the wild blue yonder at a tick above 30K feet. Yes, it’s a little cramped with the laptop open, but that’s OK because I’m still on cloud nine over last weekend’s inaugural Chevy High Performance Nationals.

Held at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia, we’ve been promoting the CHP Nationals for the past year, and what an incredible turnout we had. The spectator count was enormous; the autocross was running all-weekend long with the hottest Pro Touring cars in the country; the heads-up drag racing was sick, with jaw-dropping, wheels-up action and big mph—but there’s more! If you were looking for new products or parts, the packed Manufacturers’ Midway and huge swap meet could easily fulfill your needs. Then there were the Pro Mod cars, the jet cars that were piloted by two lovely ladies, and we even brought our Street Machine Challenge and Top Ride Shootout for everyone to see.

I don’t want to give away all of the details, especially with the event coverage we have planned for next month, but I did want to take a moment to look back at how this all came about. As you know, we cover several NMCA races throughout the year, and when Charlie Harmon from ProMedia (owners of NMCA) called me from the airport last year to see if I was interested in hosting an event, the CHP Nationals was born. Granted, there were some logistics to be sorted before it could happen, but what a great opportunity this proved to be.

Seriously, if you’re a Bow Tie fan, this was the event of the year, and if you couldn’t make it, start making plans for 2013. The CHP Nationals really does offer something for everyone, so whether you’re a hard-core drag racer, an avid autocross enthusiast, or strictly a car show buff, this is truly one show you don’t want to miss.

Now do me a favor: If you happened to be at this year’s event, send me a note at the email address listed above and be sure to share your experience. And in case you’re wondering, yes, we’re already ramping up for the next big show, and we look forward to seeing you and your rides!

Thank you!
