So I’ve compiled my own sort of bucket listexcept my top 10 list refers to all things motorsports rather than just ordinary experiences. No, I don’t want to skydive. The ground suits me just fine. I’ve always been a sucker for anything with an engine or set of wheels, though. Call me dense. Either way, here’s what I want to do in the near future, if nothing else, before I too hit the bucket.

There are just some things in this world that are worth doing and experiencing. Most of us have day jobs, though, and while not all of us have loads of cash sitting around, or the ability to take off on vacation at a moment’s notice, it’s still nice to dream.

Pikes Peak is the most visited mountain in America and second in the world. It also holds a hill climb race every year. Thin air, big power, 156 turns, no side barriers, and 9,300 feet! Sounds good to me. Buy a junker and smash into each other. The last one standing (driving) wins. A destruction derby sounds like the perfect way to spend a Friday night. The Long Beach Grand Prix is next. It’s a local event for us. Plus, who can deny the sight of a 3.5L (213ci) V-8 with four cams and makes around 650 hp with a 10,300-rpm rev limitthey scream! Monster truck racing since the sound of 3,000 hp inside an enclosed stadium is just mind-numbing nuts. Overseas, big rig racing is highly popular. Watching a truck normally designed to haul goods racing around with other haulers is confusing, to say the least. Add in triple-digit speeds with water-cooled brakes, and it becomes a spectacle. The Bonneville Speed Week is a highly coveted event and includes a six-day speed fest held in Salt Lake City. Drag boat racing has all the elements of a good time: water, sun, and high-horsepower boats skimming inches off the water roaring past. The Nrburgring in Germany is a racetrack so big (12.9 miles with 73 turns) it’s got a city smack dab in the middle. Next, the Dakar Rally is an off-road race through Argentina and Chile and can include 500 to 600 miles in one day. Lastly, any sort of mud racing sounds fun considering most of these rigs are all driver built. Be it mud drags or whatever. If they’ve all got high-horsepower mills, I’m there.
