Jim Summers 1956 - 2010
Over the years we've gotten to know Jim Summers, the motorsports director for ProCharger, pretty well and it saddens us to say that he passed away after a three-year battle with cancer at 4:15 a.m., Sunday, September 19th. Jim was a vital part of the ProCharger team and very respected in the drag racing community. Our thoughts are with Jim's family, the Procharger team, and everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.
Gen-5 Camaro Catalog
Traditionally known for its classic GM restoration parts, Classic Industries (classicindustires.com) is expanding its line of inventory to include the most extensive collection of fifth-gen Camaro parts and accessories, including merchandise and apparel. I hate to say it, but if you weren't at the Holley LS Fest in Bowling Green, Kentucky, then you really missed out. Touching base with Henry D's Shop Talk, I just wanted to reiterate the Holley LS Fest again. Yes, while the rain put a damper on the event, it was a small hit on the super-explosion of fun and all-out LS mayhem. To be honest, it was just a group of enthusiasts who wanted nothing more than to hammer the throttle. Think of it as a three-day summer camp for grown-ups and their sick street cars. Whether it was on the autocross track, at the lanes, or during the Stop-Start challenge, smiles were abundant and drivers were more than eager to jump in their cars and strut their stuff. All we kept hearing was, "We can't wait for next year." I even caught myself stating the same. Albeit the total number of attendees wasn't all that impressive, but seeing as this was Holley's first year with this event, we can't see anything but a lot of growth in the years to come. Compound that through word of mouth and next year is sure to be a blast.
Everywhere we turned, there were pleasing LS-powered vehicles throughout the event grounds and a manufacturer's midway that allowed participants a firsthand look at new products and a chance to speak with the pros face to face. This event wasn't just for show cars. These cars put their money where their mouth was and left you speechless. These cars performed. Never mind the heat, these built cars were going round after round with no issues; a testament to LS-swap performance. Even late '90's Nissan 240s were tickling the event with full factory-like LS-swaps and six-speeds. One was a full drift car that spent a couple minutes doing nothing but burning tires for the crowd. At one point the driver even got out and sat on his door through the window and drove the car, completing 360s with ease.
This event was no joke. The CHP team tries to hit up as many events as possible. By far, this has been our favorite event to date. We can't wait for next year's event.
We've said it before and they are hard to miss. With LS swaps gaining more and more popularity among all auto enthusiasts across the board, it's only natural to see their inevitable progression into other makes of vehicles.
