As Hot Rodders we are driven by timelines. They are what motivate us to build. Whether it’s having a car ready for Power Tour, Drag Week, SEMA, or even a local show with buddies. It’s these deadlines, and the precious few days before them that spur our builds toward completion. For the team here at Super Chevy, CPP Week to Wicked presented by Super Chevy and Axalta was no different, only the timeline was way shorter than anything we had attempted before, and the stakes of a 1,000-mile drive were a little higher than a cruise to a local car show.
But, we did it. The car went from a stock-style restoration to a Pro Touring machine in one week’s time, and made the trek from California to Arizona through Phoenix, Jerome, Sedona, and Tucson like a champ. While we wish our drag strip outing had been more successful, anyone who’s ever built a project car knows that fate has a way of testing gearheads and sometimes, things just go wrong.
And that’s exactly what this Chevelle was, a project. There were no scripts, and no fictional timeline. Week to Wicked was real and every bit a thrash to the end. We may have had to cut the last leg of our adventure short this time, but don’t worry: we’ll be back. The car is already being prepped for Hot Rod Power Tour where it will make its presence known.
In one week, we tore this Chevelle down to a bare shell and changed everything. We didn’t sleep, we had way too much caffeine and we wrenched. By the end of it there wasn’t single bolt on the car that remained unturned, and we built something we were all truly proud of.
