Pro Touring is a style that gets thrown around a lot nowadays - much like the term Pro Street was in the ‘70s. But, what really makes a Pro Touring car so appealing is that by nature, Pro Touring cars are meant to be driven. Borrowing heavily from modern sports cars and touring sedans, the Pro Touring movement combines modern suspension, bigger brakes, and aggressive rubber at all four corners. This is a recipe that yields a muscle car ready to evoke pure driving joy.
For CPP Week to Wicked presented by Super Chevy and Axalta (our one-week 1967 Chevelle build) we turned to Classic Performance Products (CPP) to make our stock Chevelle handle like a 2016 Camaro. We headed down to their Placentia, California facility today to pick up the goods. While we were hanging out around the shop, we took the opportunity to showcase some of their way-cool machining operations.
Check out this awesome montage of sparks flying, plasma spraying, and all of the other fab-work that lets CPP build such great parts. Don’t forget to check back at superchevy.com on April 18th to watch this 1967 Chevelle go from stock to a Pro-Touring monster during Week to Wicked!
What is CPP Week to Wicked Presented by Super Chevy and Axalta?
It all begins the morning of April 18 when our stock 1967 Chevelle will roll into Super Chevy’s Santa Ana Tech Center for a full teardown and rebuild. We’ll be pulling the car down to its bones, replacing steering, suspension, powertrain, drivetrain, and just about everything else you can possibly imagine; all with the goal of bringing the performance of a 1967 Chevelle up to par with modern muscle cars. It’ll be a mad rush till the very last seconds of our timeline. And if that wasn’t enough, immediately following the build, we’ll be driving the car on a 1,000-plus-mile road trip to prove its road readiness. We’ll be hitting the drag strip, the engine dyno, and a few scenic local sites!
How can you follow along from home? The entire event will be covered on superchevy.com via daily video and story updates, as well as on all of our social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Stay tuned for what is sure to be one heckuva ride!
