Steel Timing Chain Cover 2/24

COMP Cams’ steel timing chain cover (PN 208) was used to seal up our double roller timing chain. It comes with a nifty roller bearing camshaft button and is reinforced to prevent cam walk.

Cam Retainer 3/24

There are basically two different cam retainer plates in the small-block Chevy world. The early block uses the plate with the wider pattern (right 3.294-inch bolt center), while the early block (non-roller 3.620-inch bolt center) uses the narrow pattern version.

Racing Head Service Manifold 4/24

Racing Head Service’s single plane intake manifold (PN 12902) will be put to the test on this engine. This piece is designed with a dual bolt pattern, both vertical and regular. It’s designed to work best in the mid to upper rpm levels.

Pertronix Flame Thrower Plug Play 5/24

Pertronix’ Flame-Thrower Plug-n-Play distributor was chosen to handle the spark of our stroker engine, which includes the Ignitor II module. The module is a powerful micro controller with adaptive dwell algorithms that constantly adjust the dwell angle to maintain peak energy throughout the entire RPM range for increased performance. An ARP oil pump driveshaft (PN 134-7901) was also dropped into place.

Quick Fuel Black Diamond Q 7/24

On the dyno we’re planning to use a Quick Fuel Black Diamond Q-Series carburetor. Details include a unique high-temp coating, 750-cfm, no choke horn, and aluminum construction. Look for more on this piece when we tune on the dyno.

Moroso Valve Cover 8/24

Moroso’s fabricated aluminum valve covers (PN 68326) and gaskets from Mahle/Clevite were used to seal up our COMP valvetrain. These feature thick rails that won’t warp and really make our black and silver bullet shine.

Moroso Electric Water Pump 9/24

For the cooling system, we opted for Moroso’s new electric water pump (PN 63557). This piece is a definite improvement over their old design, as it can pump 21 percent more water through the system and the pump itself can rotate in its housing for hose mounting solutions.  

Tci Rattler Harmonic Balancer 10/24

TCI’s famous Rattler harmonic balancer (PN 870001) and timing pointer (PN 871002) were bolted to the front of the 385ci. The clear, laser etched timing marks alone are worth it, plus they are SFI 18:1 approved.

Hooker Fenderwell Headers 11/24

The headers we will be using both on the dyno and in the car are Hooker Super Competition fenderwell headers (PN 2214HKR). These were a determining factor on the engine type we chose, since LS fenderwells for Chevy IIs don’t exist.

Stock Block Brawler 12/24

With the Stock Block Brawler complete, it’s now destined for the engine dyno at Westech Performance Group where we’ll show off how to dial it in using jet changes, timing adjustments and we’ll also be strapping a nitrous system to the combination to see what power our moderate mouse will make on laughing gas. Any guesses on what this little 385ci combo will produce?
