1969 Chevrolet Camaro L89 Coupe at Mecum

The L89 aluminum head big-block V-8 was one of the many powertrain option choices for the 1969 Camaro, but it was by far the rarest application. The L89 is endowed with 11.0:1 compression, as well as forged internals, a solid lifter cam, and an aluminum intake topped with a Holley 4-barrel. The high-flow aluminum heads are responsible for unleashing additional horsepower while saving weight (75 pounds) in the front end, which in turn improved front-rear weight distribution for NHRA Super Stock racing.

The 1969 Camaro L89 Coupe pictured is up for grabs through Mecum Auctions in Kissimmee on Saturday, January 25th, at 2:45 p.m. Out of the 311 L89s produced, this is believed to be one-of-a-kind due to the choice of options that it was built with. The engine is numbers-matching, and is paired with a 4-speed transmission and RPO JL8 4-wheel disc brakes (1 of 206 Camaros built with this option).

The Camaro underwent a rotisserie restoration this past January and is finished in a Tuxedo Black coat with Sport Stripe delete (matched with a custom black interior), and Endura front bumper, front and rear spoilers, and Z21-style trim group. Parts used in the restoration of the Camaro are original or NOS GM dated if available, and the engine, transmission, and 4.10 Posi-traction rear end are all matching numbers. It also features a dealer-installed chambered exhaust.

Inside, you’ll find a variety of creature comforts including Soft Ray tinted glass, a factory tachometer, Sport steering wheel, Deluxe seat belts with shoulder belts, and an AM radio.

Factory documentation including Protect-O-Plate, broadcast sheet, invoice, window sticker, pre-delivery checklist, and owner’s manual are all included in the sale.
