When he's not touring or playing surf festivals, Dick enjoys a private Bohemian lifestyle with his wife Jill and son Jimmy (an 11-year-old guitar prodigy who now joins his father on stage for duets) at their secluded desert ranch. His day often includes writing new songs, riding quads or dirt bikes on a private motocross track, promoting his current album Spacial Disorentation, building a half-pipe skateboard ramp for Jimmy, adding onto his house, corresponding with fans through his Web site www.dickdale.com, and cruising in his '98 Corvette convertible. Finally, after years of lusting for a Vette, Dick found the right model that even Jimmy drives. No longer interested in hopping up the engine, he settled for sheepskin seat covers, fins over the taillights, and a Dick Dale sticker on the rear fascia. "I really wasn't aware of what a Vette means," says Dick, who still lays down a mean pair of black stripes on his private concrete runway when the urge hits him. "Now I never get so excited as I do when I see another Vette coming up the road."
