Mom Connolly drove a '59 Corvette fuelie (her first car) to Colorado. She got married and had a family, including two boys, Mike and Chris. She didn't forget about Corvettes, though, and she didn't let her boys forget either. After working on them for years, Mike and Chris found a monster motor to use in their dream project: a blown street cruiser. The motor was in a friend's '32 Chevy, and it was a big-block with an 8-71 blower. Just when the brothers thought they could get away with cutting up their current ride, a very nice '72 Vette, to slam the big-block in, mom vetoed the idea. She wasn't one to cut up a nice Corvette when it's not necessary. They found a semi-basket case for $1,800 and hauled it home. Mom said that was a keeper.
A local chassis builder in Denver, Mike Lupfer, put together the start of a frame, and then Chris and Mike tore into the body (which was pretty torn up already). Things were going well when tragedy struck: Mom suddenly passed away. She had been a major driving force behind the project and a big supporter of the car, but now she was gone. The car sat for a number of months until Chris and Mike decided the Vette would be built in their mother's honor. They dove back into the work with renewed purpose and turned the project into more than a street machine; it became the show car we see here. There are too many small details to mention, but the car is a stunner! To date, it has won 30 awards in 14 shows, including several Super Chevy Shows. The Connollys can be proud of what the two brothers accomplished (about 90 percent home-built), and we figure mom is just as pleased as Mike and Chris.
