Motion Performance's Joel Rosen Partners With Denooyer Chevrolet's Performance Division And Redline Motorsports To Build Motion 427 And 454 Camaros.

As we reported at superchevy.com a short while back, Mr. Motion, Joel Rosen, of Motion Performance fame, was striking a deal to market modern performance machines with the legendary Motion flare. The deal was announced in late January after Rosen inked a two-year deal with DeNooyer Chevrolet's Performance Division and Redline Motorsports to build brand new '11 and '12 Motion Performance 427 and 454 Camaros.

Unlike the automobiles of days 40 years ago, these 427s and 454s are LS-based, and their power will put fear into the timid-and perhaps into the owners of many of the earlier Motion cars, which sell for six figures today. If the program is successful, Motion, DeNooyer, and Redline could expand the lineup to include Corvettes in the future.

Back in the day, Baldwin Chevrolet on Long Island advertised the Fantastic Five-427-powered Novas, Camaros, Chevelles, Corvettes, and full-size Chevys. Taking this theme and applying it to the fifth-gen Camaro, the parties involved now came up the '11 Fantastic Five: SS-427 (525 hp), Phase III 427 (600 hp), SS-454 (550 hp), Phase III 454 (a 625 hp "torque monster" with a six-speed manual only) and Phase III 427-SC (800 hp Supercharged Supercar). Rosen ordered car number 001 for himself, which will (naturally) be a Phase III 427-SC model, and as of this writing in January two deposits have been taken-one for an SS 27 and another for a Phase III 427-SC

Details are still emerging, but the Phase III SC models will all use TR6060 six-speed manual gearboxes with ZR1 clutches and axles rated to withstand 1,000 hp of abuse. A complete Pfadt chassis and suspension setup is standard on this model as well.

According to Motion Performance spokeman Martyn L. Schorr, prices on the SS427 are expected to start at under $80,000 and range to somewhere in the neighborhood of $150,000 for the full-on Phase III SC.

The SS427 comes with custom-painted Motion graphics, interior ungrades, VIN badges, and plates. Trim and wheel combinations will change from model to model. To ensure exclusivity, the Phase III and SC wheels are just for these cars and replacement wheels will be available only to verified Motion car owners.

More than 40 years ago Rosen, a young Brooklyn dyno-tuner, hot rodder, street racer, and national record holding drag racer, turned a simple 427 Camaro engine swap into an empire. Working with Baldwin Chevrolet, he was the most prolific builder-marketer of modified new big-block Chevys during the Supercar '60s and '70s. He backed up Phase III models with written money-back performance warranties and now passing the torch to Howard Tanner, a young dyno-tuning specialist and speed shop owner.

"We have re-launched the Baldwin-Motion and Motion brands again, this time capturing the true spirit of what we did in 1967-1974: Market built-to-order, dyno-proven, and warranted SS and Phase III 427 and 454 Camaros, crafted by a high-tech dyno shop and available exclusively from a single authorized Chevrolet dealer."

Howard Tanner is president of Redline Motorsports, a speed shop specializing in fuel-injected vehicles in Schenectady, New York. He and his team are the builders. Dan Carlton, General Manager, DeNooyer Chevrolet's Performance Division in Albany, New York, is handling client contact and all orders will be placed through him.

Tanner is a highly skilled engine calibrator and dyno-tuner, as well as an experienced builder of large-displacement GM vehicles, including Camaros and Corvettes. Carlton, a respected racer, successful general manager of luxury brand dealerships, and former Chevrolet dealership principal, has years of experience selling both imported and domestic high-performance vehicles.

Every Motion Camaro will be built to order at Redline and tuned by Tanner on its 1,400 hp Eddy Current load dyno. A full dyno report as well as official Baldwin-Motion documentation will go with each car.

Sanctioned, serialized, and signed by Rosen, each '11 Motion SS and Phase III Camaro will be delivered with custom Motion VIN plates and complete documentation. To prevent future cloning of Motion Camaros, Rosen and Carlton will be establishing a confidential Motion Registry detailing each VIN, vehicle specifications, and original purchaser data.
