For most of us, our first car was something that only got us where we were going and not much more. It usually had a few mismatched panels along the body, and we laughed it off when the thing backfired. In the end, when we had finally saved up enough money for something else, our first car was either sold for a few hundred bucks or swept away as salvage to prevent anyone else from having to Flintstone it home at 2 a.m. There exists a miniscule few like Jared Marlar of Ponca City, Oklahoma, who took his '72 Chevrolet Chevelle and resurrected it from the purgatory of being salvaged or crushed.
Jared had long made the decision to revive his car into a jaw-dropping state of being. Ponca Body and Paint in Oklahoma began a painstaking transformation of this Chevy into one of slick envy. Beginning with the nose of the car, the bumper, all the bolts, the and license plate were all cut out and filled for a new appearance. The front fenders were wiped clean of their stock moldings and emblems. The factory door handles and mirrors were also dusted off to articulate a completely aerodynamic look. The original hood was swapped for an SS cowl, with the moldings also shaved. At the rear of this cherry, the gas filler and door were shaved and relocated to rest behind the license plate box. Other slick, eye-catching body modifications include the shaved driprails, flush-mounted glass, smoothed seam lines, and filled quarter lights bring this Chevelle to a different type of stomping ground. The crew of Upholstery Unlimited in Del City, Oklahoma, is responsible for interior. New ermine white Ultra Leather and customized '98 Grand Am seats were stitched in the same Ultra Leather, as were the headliner and door panels. Jared built a one-off fiberglass dash to house his Dakota Digital gauges, air gauges, and air ride switches.
A tweaked 350 V-8 carbureted GM performance parts crate engine with Vortec heads pumping 330 hp keeps this machine running at its best. Jared and his friend, Jon Leach, also installed an Air Ride Technologies kit in the belly of this beast. Of course, it can't haul itself on its own. This setup is grounded down by a spotless set of 18-inch front and 20-inch rear Budnik Tiller rims wrapped in 245/35/18 front and 275/35/20 rear B.F. Goodrich G-Force tires.
Everything on this car has been carefully thought through and redesigned. It demands attention everywhere it goes, yet its modifications are so silent it almost takes your breath away. There is a first time for everything, and in this case, Jared's first is something that will be setting standards for a long time.
