1967 Chevrolet Chevelle - Sweet Sixteen Chevelle

By Bob McClurg

The ink may barely be dry on 16-year-old Casco Owens' Colorado driver's license, but you'll be able to find her out competing in the brackets at nearby Bandimere Speedway. You see, Caci, as she is known, comes from family of certifiable Chevrolet high-performance "nuts," and we mean that in a very good way.

For beginners, Caci's stepfather, Scot, alternates rides between a blown big-block '55 Chevrolet Pro Streeter and a one-of-a-kind, 50th Anniversary Corvette GTR. The vehicle of choice for Brenda, Caci's mom, is a blown 406-cid, small-block Chevrolet-powered, hugger orange '69 Camaro SS. Then there's Caci's older sister Ambr, whose favorite ride is a 350-powered '62 Chevy II. Caci and her father purchased this marina blue '67 Chevelle last year for the meager sum of $7,500.

Undoubtedly, one of the most notable aspects of Caci's Chevelle is its 4-inch Harwood fiberglass cowl-induction hood, and a '64 Ford Thunderbolt-style ram air induction system, which feeds air to a Madcap Racing-prepared 355-cid GM small-block equipped with a COMP cam, Edelbrock intake, and 650 Carter AFB. Other go-fast goodies on Caci's small-block include a GM HEI, and Walker Dyno-Max headers flowing through a set of Flowmaster mufflers. Backing it all up is a stock GM Powerglide transmission.

The Chevelle's chassis features a 2.73:1-geared 12-bolt rear axle with Monroe shocks and stock Chevelle drum brakes. Monroes also control the bumps up front. Wheels and tires on the '67 are 15-inch Weld Drag Lites wrapped with a set of 15-inch Remington radial rubber.

On the inside, Caci's '67 features the factory marina blue vinyl, along with a Grant GT steering wheel and a Panasonic sound system.

Caci learned to drive with this car, and next year when she hits her Sweet 16, she'll be piloting the car to high school.
