When Tommy Angelle found this former drag-car-turned-driveway-deco, the only words scrambling through his mind were "no rules." Tommy has an assortment of restored numbers matching cars, but the newest addition to the fleet would be nothing of the sort.
The car had already been given a tube frame and ladder bar setup out back, so Tommy decided to go ahead and keep it like that. But as for the rest of the car, it was all up to him. Tommy pondered the future of the Chevelle and finally came to the realization that he liked the new g-Machine look with big wheels, great handling, and cool brakes while still retaining the classic lines of a '66 Chevelle.
Adding to the already custom undercarriage, Tommy installed a set of Air Ride Technologies Shockwave airbags up front with Fat Man Fabrications 2-inch drop spindles. The black Nitto donuts are wrapped around Intro Penta billet aluminum, and resting behind the new wheel/tire combo are Aerospace 13-inch disc brakes for increased stopping power. Once the front was set up to Tommy's liking he concentrated on the rear aspect of the car. The previous owner had given Tommy a head start by installing a ladder bar setup, so all that was left to do was to refine the system. Koni double-adjustable shocks were added at each end of the Moser Dana 60 rearend, with Intro 18x12-inch rims and Nitto Drag Radials mounted outside of the Aerospace brakes. As for the drivetrain, Schexnayder Racing Engines built Tommy one wicked 454 big-block, which grew to a healthier 496 ci. Schexnayder Racing Engines also assembled a Turbo 400 to handle the 780 hp that the 496 is crankin' out.
With the performance aspect taken care of, Tommy moved onto cosmetics. The outside was outfitted with a Glass Tech 4-inch cowl hood and was then sprayed LeMans Blue by Bryan's Paint Shop. Underneath the Chevelle's roof sits two '68 Camaro bucket seats covered in white leather. The car maintains a mean attitude with the custom-made rollcage mounted right behind the front seats. Considering that Tommy borrowed styles from all over the board, the only description for this type of build is that it definitely had "no rules" while coming together.
