There are just some cars out there that give off that "I'm 60-plus feel." However, some of those cars, if done right, IF . . . done right, can just straight up look rad. When the words '86 Monte Carlo come to mind the first thing I think of is grocery getter or gold and metal flake rollin' on Daytons lowrider. But if I was at a stoplight and Doug Pessemier pulled up to me, the only words, or word I should say is daaaaaaaanng!
It's not too often you see tricked out Montes cruising the streets, especially '86 models. In fact that's what really makes Doug's car that much more pimp. And when you find out that not only can this bad boy drop 'em dead with looks, but it turns 12s in the quarter, it's enough to make a grown man cry. And Doug knows it.
Before Doug even found the car he had plans for what it would look and be like. Therefore right off the back, he sent his GM 406 straight to Performance Engine Development to have the machine work done. Once they handled their chore he sent the Mouse to Pessemiers Complete Automotive where they threw a bunch of goodies into the '72 block, including Brodix aluminum heads. Meanwhile Doug was scavenging through Auto Trader, until he found the perfect building block.
In Chehalis, Washington, he found his diamond in the rough. He brought her straight home the day after Christmas and immediately put a new Posi rearend in it by New Year's. Next the door handles were removed and a complete air suspension system was put in. Then 2 months later the small-block was dropped in along with a 700-R4 trans. Through a deal of trading some wheels, tires, and some cash, the Monte was sprayed pearl white, and Doug hit the road.
Several months later, Doug got greedy in a turn and lost control. It was then and there he decided he might as well go all out for the next custom job. The new look, which you see now, includes a two-tone silver and white paint job with red graphics, Budnik wheels, a custom built aluminum grille, and all the emblems (key locks, trunk lock, etc.) shaved. Then the interior was matched to the outside when Doug had the seats covered in silver and black material. Since then you can bet Doug has been a little more careful, but just a little! Because who could lay off a 451hp Monte Carlo?
