Imagine that you're lucky enough to have a dad who owns a '69 Camaro. He then lets you use it to date the girl you will later marry. How cool is that? Ready for more? Dad actually found the car in 1977, told a friend who then bought it, then after it changed hands one more time, dad finally got his hands on it. Dad drove it some, stored it some, and eventually sold it to his son who built it the way it is today (you didn't think it looked this great all of its life, did you?).
This fine '69 has been in Steve and Darlene Moore's life for a long time, and it probably will stay with them for quite awhile into the future. The sheetmetal is original, but it still took 3 1/2 years to rehab and build the car. Steve did a rotisserie resto and painted it himself in a booth at home, made from 2x4s and plastic sheeting-but don't tell that to the neighbors.
Other than upholstery, the entire car was completed by Steve at home, and its first show was at Goodguys Charlotte, where Kyle and Stacey Tucker of Detroit Speed and Engineering invited Steve to display the car in their booth-nice debut! Steve had support from his wife and daughter, and recalls fondly hammering the car around Road Atlanta at the Year One event, with wife Darlene hollering out the speeds (well over 100 mph, for sure).
