Big-Power ’55 Chevy
Ed Verhelst is a disabled USMC veteran who has found a new passion: his 2,000hp 1955 Chevy. Powered by a 565ci Dart block topped with a roots blower this thing really gets down a country backroad in a hurry. The TH400 transmission backed by a Gear Vendors under/overdrive makes highway cruising a breeze. And the best part, according to Ed, is that “there is nothing like it in the world to be able to share my passion and enjoy it with my son.”
Back in 1976, Bill Dunphy sold his 1973 Nova and bought a 1973 Camaro Z28. Since then, he has put over 330,000 miles on the chassis and is on his third engine. Bill’s second-gen sports a 350ci Chevrolet Performance crate engine that propels it to 14.4-second quarter-mile times. Outfitted with Hotchkis TVS suspension and CPP steering and disc brakes, this Z28 surely handles much better than its 330,000+ odometer reading would suggest.
Restored but not Stock ’68 Chevelle SS
On the outside, Gabe Cozza’s 1968 Chevelle SS looks like a nice, restored stocker but a secret hides under the skin. Gabe spent the better part of two years restoring his Chevelle to its former glory plus a little more because he was not about to fall prey to any of the late-model muscle prowling the streets. To get the job done he put together a built LS6 that puts out 557 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque—all motor. Just in case that wasn’t enough, he added a 150-shot of nitrous to the mix, too.
