1955 Pro Street Chevy Hits the Swedish Drag Scene

They say once drag racing gets in your blood, it’s there for life. That’s exactly the case when past Swedish and Nordic Pro Stock champ (1991-1992) Magnus Wallin built this 1955 Chevy. Magnus’ wife, Marie, tells the story: “My husband stopped racing in 1993 to become a full-time farmer, but he didn’t lose his skills for building cars. This ’55 sat in a neighbor’s yard and was being parted out. Back in 1990, the neighbor asked Magnus if he wanted the car. With not much left of the vintage Chevy, the rust-free body still offered some potential. Magnus accepted the ride and gathered up enough parts for a restoration. It started out as a four-door, but Magnus wasn’t too keen on that so he turned it into a two-door and built it up as a street/strip car. He finished the ride in 1995 and drove it on the strip for the last time in 1997.”

With the car retired and sitting in a barn for a number of years, it was in 2013 when Marie told him she’d like to give drag racing a try. She started out in their Nova, but Magnus felt the ’55 was better suited for drag racing. Marie debuted the car and took Third Place in the EDRS series in Sweden.

Marie explained that her difficulty to translate into English prohibits her from offering the full rundown of the car’s engine specs, but she was able to tell us that the car went through some changes and today features a 505ci big-block with a TH350 trans.

We are not sure if Magnus plans to get behind the wheel again, but we bet he’s proud of Marie’s and the Chevy’s accomplishments on the track thus far.
