Readers’ Corvette Rides - October 2014

Show us your Vette!

Thrice As Good

Who: John Negron
Where: Eastern North Carolina
What: (from left) ’97 Corvette coupe, ’82 Corvette, ’78 Corvette IPC

Are three Vettes are better than one? See for yourself, with my three Corvettes. Pictured (from left) is my ’97 Sebring Silver Coupe, with 79,000 original miles and completely stock with the exception of Z06-inspired seat covers and some personal touches here and there.

In the middle is my black-on-black ’82, which is also completely stock except for chrome spinners and cones on the wheels.

On the right is the newest addition to my collection, a ’78 Indy 500 Pace Car Edition, which I purchased the day before my 53rd birthday. It’s flawless, with just 14,700 original miles. The transmission, brakes, and rearend have all been upgraded and the original numbers-matching 350 has been modified with headers, a cam, and a Flowmaster exhaust so it now puts out 350 hp. It looks pretty tame until you fire it up, and then she sounds really mean!

I have been a loyal Vette reader for years, and I always look forward to the next issue. I’m hoping that you will present my cars in your Readers’ Rides section, so that I can show all my friends and Twin Rivers Corvette Club members the magazine.

Another Second-Timer

Who: Dave Stevens
Where: Seattle, Washington
What: ’87 Corvette convertible

Years ago, my mom had a white ’76 Corvette Stingray, and I had the pleasure of driving it more than she did. I loved that car, and kept it new-looking for the couple of years I drove it. Unfortunately, it stayed home when I went away to college.

Many years later, I remembered the fun I had in the ’76 and in 2009, I picked up the ’87 seen here. Everything is stock, and she still runs great with that oddball 4+3 manual transmission and the space-age gauges (which I like). The C4 was an exciting change in design that I always admired, and this picture shows off her very best side.

By the way, that’s me and my mom’s ’76, taken the morning of my high school graduation that year!
